Automatic Sorting and Ranking of Tasks
planned
willfin_daway
I have a formula that i want all my tasks to be ranked by. Priority then Urgency. I can create custom fields for this data, however i cannot sort a view by these fields.
Ideally i would like to be able to sort the tasks first by Priority and then a second sort by urgency. Ideally the view would stay sorted in this format.

This is a great, specific request — sorting by custom fields like Priority and Urgency, with the view staying sorted automatically. We've made real progress here: custom fields are now available in List View (v6.93.0), and v6.99.0 added multi-select support and a search filter to List View. But the key missing piece for you is multi-level sorting (sort by Priority, then by Urgency as a tiebreaker) that persists without manual re-sorting. That's something we're actively exploring. In the meantime, Taskade Genesis (https://taskade.com/create) lets you build AI-powered views that can rank and surface your highest-priority items dynamically — which might approximate what you're after. Check out planning templates at https://taskade.com/community and the full changelog at https://taskade.com/changelog. Really appreciate you laying out the exact formula-based use case — that level of detail is gold for our team.

Keep a page sorted by due date permanently, instead of having to sort by due date every time new tasks get added and goes out of order

Request for fixed "Sort by" settings

I often use it for board views, and I set the "Sort by" to "Due date" for each board and rearrange them each time.
It would save me a lot of time if I could automatically sort the added tasks by "Due date".
It would be great if the setting valid range could be valid not by board, but by projects.
Thank you in advance for your implementation.

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your reply.
>The first being for the project to sort by due date automatically, does that mean any task added and then have a due date attached will be automatically moved to keep the whole project in order?
Regarding the first one, you are correct, as you understand it.
>The second being that if the entire project would be sorted by due date, it would mean the re-arranging of tasks and some tasks would not be in the same board it used to be after the sort, is that what you intend to happen with this feature?
As for the second one, please let it go.
We will try to organize the contents and make another request.
I would be happy if you could implement the first feature.
Thank you.

Hi there, I understand that your post has 2 separate feature request.
The first being for the project to sort by due date automatically, does that mean any task added and then have a due date attached will be automatically moved to keep the whole project in order?
The second being that if the entire project would be sorted by due date, it would mean the re-arranging of tasks and some tasks would not be in the same board it used to be after the sort, is that what you intend to happen with this feature?

ryantaskade: Would be good to be able to choose between different sortings: manual, by date, alphabetically etc.

peterkarlen: We have the option to sort by those manually right now. However, if we did implement this feature, it would include most, if not all, of the ones you mentioned above.

Recurring tasks not sorted
kofi.wilmot
When I complete a recurring task, while in the task view, I notice the recurring task doesn't get re-sorted. It stays in the current position and that can make it appear as though it wasn't marked as completed.
My request is that the list of tasks automatically gets sorted chronologically.

Auto Sort Tasks by Completion

When marking off a task as done, it would be nice to have that automatically moved to the end of a task list.
