Interesting. 👍
Will this be able to replace Airtable❓
🙂
Narek Zograbian
Jack S.: Possibly. Depends on the use case and requirements.

Database tables like aitable.ai would be interesting. That would mean we don’t have to jump back and forth between different tools.. I would set it up as separate documents, otherwise it breaks the UI and in general it wouldnt make sence. I‘d see it as a resource for me, and for AI. And it would be great if these tables could also be generated by AI. Aitable.ai doesnt have this feature, but in general they would be a great inspiration in my mind.
John at Taskade
philip_faderl: Great insights, Philip! 🚀 Our new Table View and smarter AI might be just what you're looking for. Tables can indeed be a game-changer, and we're exploring ways to further integrate AI in generating and utilizing them. Stay tuned for updates!

I want tables as database in notion and the ability for AI agents to read this data not markdown useless tables
John at Taskade
Alex: Hi Alex! 🌟 We've introduced a new Table View in Taskade that might interest you, with AI agents that can interact with the data more meaningfully. We're always working to improve, so your feedback is invaluable! https://www.taskade.com/blog/ai-table-view-agents-task-automation/

brucerfleck
It would be very helpful to support basic markdown formatting of tables. Nothing crazy. Just the pipe "|" and dash "-" style formatting.
Narek Zograbian
brucerfleck: Do you want this as an add-on for each node? Or are you saying for displaying formatting in AI generated responses?

How about creating a table with Markdown?
Eg.
| Year | Snowfall (mm) |
|-------|---------------|
| 2010 | 1000 |
| 2011 | 1200 |
| 2012 | 800 |
| 2013 | 900 |
| 2014 | 1100 |
| 2015 | 950 |
| 2016 | 850 |
| 2017 | 1300 |
| 2018 | 1050 |
| 2019 | 1150 |
| 2020 | 900 |
Narek Zograbian
Jack S.: Where would you like to see this? At the node/task-level? Or just supporting this sort of formatting in AI generations?
philip_faderl
Narek ZograbianAt the node/task level I‘d say. But even better if there is the possibility to make extra table/database documents!
Narek Zograbian
philip_faderl We're currently working on custom fields and customizing Action View. Would that implementation work for you?
philip_faderl
Narek Zograbian I am not sure, I thought it might be great to have a database-like feature within taskade. A new sheet resembling google sheets you can refer to, for tasks and AI.
Like for example a list of contacts, and than you can connect a certain row to a task. Or you can ask taskade Ai in which row we can find a certain value, or create a task of it for certain values. Or you could ask AI to write something in a table, like content titles for Facebook, text summaries, or so.
But yeah at the same time we need to keep it as easy to navigate and understand as possible. I liked the idea to edit uploaded excel/csv files, maybe thats a compromise or a start?
Narek Zograbian
philip_faderl We're currently scoping out Custom Fields for Action View. It should address many of the use cases you've listed here.
philip_faderl
Narek Zograbian that sounds fantastic!

xpareto
For me is not a must. Maybe is simpler to have a separate document, referred from outline... to not disturb the actual structure. An excel file..already can be loaded. And created with AI. Why duplicate this in Taskade?
John at Taskade
xpareto: Good point! Keeping things simple is key. Our new updates offer the flexibility to manage projects efficiently, integrating seamlessly with existing tools. Your input helps us shape Taskade's future. Thanks!
Narek Zograbian
Hey everyone! How would you see Tables implemented within Taskade?
- Do you see them as a separate "document" type completely separate from Taskade?
- Would you want to embed or reference tables within Projects?
- Would you want a completely separate UI interaction with Tables?
- How would Projects handle tables without breaking the UI when switching between views?
- Would embedding or linking tables within Taskade display them like a task add-on within a project?
- What field types would you like to see within Tables?
There are a lot of questions about this feature because it's a major breakaway from our structure. Any clarification helps!
tnt-systems
Narek Zograbian: I think from my point of view I see tables as having simple charts that can be created from table data. Think Excel, but simplified.
albertkinng
Narek Zograbian: just a way to import excel sheets and be able to manage them will do. To be honest that’s the only thing missing.
luispw
Narek Zograbian I think I see the need for two kinds of tables:
1) Simple table: A table block that can be added to any page, just like other current blocks.
2) A proper table view to manage projects: Just like we have an "action view", I'd love a table view where I could add columns (attributes) to each task: date, checkbox, tags, etc. Something similar to what Airtable or Infinity do. Obviously, it doesn't need to be as complete, but definitely more flexible than the action view.
jonathan.g
Narek Zograbian: The best is to make a table as on notion. Having a database allows a lot of things and it would be very appreciated. Being able to cross data between several pages (Besides, when is it possible to create a page in a project as notion ?) is super practical.
anvanlaer
Narek Zograbian: I mostly miss the function to add a table as a block. Some information is best displayed in a table.
Narek Zograbian
anvanlaer: Do you see it functioning like the Google Sheets embed functionality in Google Docs?
Narek Zograbian
jonathan.g: I hear you! The main issue that we have with taking a similar approach as Notion is that it adds friction and complexity to our system. We don't have an issue with creating and supporting the features as much as we do with communicating them to users. We want to keep it simple and user-friendly while powerful—a challenging feat.
After all, we can build all the features in the world, but it won't be useful if users are confused or don't understand how to use it.
However, I'm curious and would love to hear more about your thoughts. What database features do you use the most from Notion? Are there any that you think are a must and you won't use the functionality without it?
Narek Zograbian
luispw: Would an action view with customizable columns and custom fields be what you're looking for the second option?
I imagine Tables as a completely separate entity—like projects—that can be referenced, embedded, and linked. Is this inline with your view?
jonathan.g
Narek Zograbian: Yes databases. Being able to share several pieces of information on different pages with just one table.
For example I have a main table with all my customer requests and I can display only theirs on their page.
The same goes for invoices. This allows you to have accounting on a page which is sent separately to each client.
But there are mains other features that are also really important and we will always use notion without them. (Even if you have a more powerful AI)
- A real kanban view
- Databases
- Creating documents with multiple columns
- the possibility of making tables with formulas and linking them to databases
Today the taskade environment is really strict and does not allow us to create a personalized space to communicate with our customers or our partners. It is not possible to create templates. Only the possibility of creating lists, but it is not easy for communication.
luispw
Narek Zograbian: That's exactly what I'm expecting: action view with customizable columns and custom fields.
I'm not sure how "tables as a completely separate entity" would work. I want tables inside my projects, or to organize projects in a table.
anvanlaer
Narek Zograbian: For me a simple table-layout is sufficiënt for now.
Narek Zograbian
luispw: Thank you for clarifying! The first request would probably be the starting point.
Regarding the tables part of projects, it would simply be one project per table because there's only one action view per project. Would this be okay?
The second part could be completed in the future and even now possible using one project in Action view and having each line be a link to a project.
Narek Zograbian
anvanlaer: Thank you for confirming!
Narek Zograbian
jonathan.g: Thank you for the detailed feedback and the screenshots! We'll look into more about how we can support some of these use cases.
Narek Zograbian
tnt-systems: So you'd want to actually edit a table or spreadsheet data within Taskade?
Narek Zograbian
albertkinng: Would a workaround be having interactive Google Sheets embedded within Taskade be solution?
albertkinng
Narek Zograbian: yes
tnt-systems
Narek Zograbian: If I could embed an Excel sheet and just work on that, I think that would be a better solution. I don't use Google Sheets, so that wouldn't be an option.
Narek Zograbian
jonathan.g: Thanks for the detailed overview of your use case and the screenshots! It helps us understand what you're referring to and how we can improve Taskade to cater to that use case.
Our architecture is quite different from Notion and similar tools, so we do have to do a lot more review and structuring on our end to be able to support certain features and use cases. However, this feedback helps us understand the requirements!
Narek Zograbian
albertkinng: Ok, thank you for confirming that!
Narek Zograbian
tnt-systems: Noted. Thank you for clarifying!
jonathan.g
Narek Zograbian: I understand but if you want to attract more people and make people leave notion it's the direction to follow. Because at this time, i don't use the AI that much. But i need a lot all the tools i mentionned. And without this people who use notion will not come. Have a good day.
jonathan.g
Narek Zograbian i'm totally agree with tnt-systems embed it's not a solution. We need a complete tool.
heartbeathive
luispw: This is what I need, columns- I can add and name in action view. Or a very simple block with a table. For me, it's a visual thing for dividing information, not data set management for calculations, but for prioritizing and categorizing.
luispw
Narek Zograbian: Yes, I'm fine with one customizable action view per project. That's exactly what I'm missing. Thanks!
Narek Zograbian
luispw: Thank you for confirming!
Narek Zograbian
heartbeathive: Thank you for mentioning your requested use case! Custom Columns/Fields for Action view are a work in progress.
I think a lot of the requests here overlap with customizing columns in Action View. So, you're not alone in this!
rodrigo.ventura
Narek Zograbian Hey guys, I've been keeping up with your discussion and I totally agree with you, jonathan.g . Even though Taskade's core is different from tools like Notion, the kind of mobility and creative flexibility that Notion offers is exactly what Taskade is missing. We've got huge potential with AI agents, but Taskade's current structure is way too stiff. Pretty soon, every tool out there is going to have its own AI agents working for them, and it won't be a big unique feature anymore. If Taskade wants to grab more users, adopting flexible databases is definitely the right move. I'm here to help out however I can!
Narek Zograbian
rodrigo.ventura We're working on Custom Fields in Action View. That feature will create a table-like experience without complicating the experience or UI too much. We're testing it out right now.
John at Taskade
albertkinng: Hey Albert! You're in luck—our latest updates make managing project information even smoother, potentially streamlining the way you'd handle Excel sheets within Taskade. Excited for you to explore!
John at Taskade
rodrigo.ventura: Thanks Rodrigo, check out our latest updates, would love your feedback and thoughts.
