Doc-like editing like Notion.

ATM it functions like a to do list. Content we create are in bullet points by default.
Would be good to open a new project in Doc style (Like Google doc or Notion) instead of bullet points.
And we can have more formatting options like H1, H2, H3, Quotes, Embed video, images and so on.
This gives us so much more flexibility and become a serious contender for Notion.
Thanks!

Wow, over 360 votes on this feature what would literally kills so many other competitors and make users stay more in Taskade. But still no implementation. I really hope we finally can get this feature, which removes the need to jump GSheets or Notion for document creation. Anyone have more up to date information about the progress of this feature?

Hello, since there's activity on this thread I want to share my point of view as a first time user. As far as I have gathered, all content in a project is a task, no matter which type is used (bullet points, check items, paragraph) and is treated as such in the task views. However, this leads to a major issue that makes absolutely no sense: If you use the AI assistant to draw a Project outline based on different sources (and this is why I tried the app in the first place and it works amazingly well), you will get a project page full of different types of information: Some will be tasks, but others are headings or paragraphs with notes and information, where it makes no sense to "complete" those items or for those blocks to even show up in the "My Tasks" section. After generating just one project page, I have now over 100 tasks in the My tasks section, most of which are not tasks or todo's, but simply text paragraphs and headings. In other words, why is there a distinction between heading, paragraph, bullet list and checklist items, if they're all treated functionally the same for all purposes? The behaviour I would expect is the following:
If a block is marked as one of the checklist types, it appears in the "My tasks view" and is considered a task /todo for all other purposes in the app. If a block is of the type paragraph or heading, then it is ignored by every other functionality that is based on tasks.
In extension, this issue proliferates when you switch from list to Kanban or mindmap views: Every block is treated the same no matter which type it has. Unless the content of your project is todos, and only todos and subtasks, the Kanban View and the mindmap view make little sense as they simply display the nested lists differently without regard to their type: I will have 1 Kanban column that simply contains an introductory paragraph describing the project, a second column with actual tasks because it draws on the to do section of my project. The first column makes no sense in the Kanban view or even the mindmap view.
Either I'm missing something or this issue defeats the entire purpose of type disctinctions and makes it hard to use this app as an all around knowledge base.
I am very impressed by the AI features and think it's a good value proposition to access GPT4 Turbo through a Taskade subscription, but for now I can only use this app as a way of interacting with and generating content through AI and then export that content to other apps, which is a real shame and quite disappointing.

angroid: Hey there! There's another feature request similar to what you're requesting:

We'll continue our work on this in the near future!
albertkinng
Narek Zograbian: What specifically made this too challenging to tackle, given that you moved on to other improvements?
Narek Zograbian
albertkinng: It's not that we've moved on. We're not currently working on this, so I think placing it as "in progress" misleads our users.
We're going to implement this in the future. However, I want to make sure our users know what we're actually working on.

WTF - THIS has been already 2 Years almost and this features isn't there??? Wow guys cmon! Really dissappointing!
Do something about it finally.
Now with AI you should be able to build and implement this feature today!
Really? DO IT!
Narek Zograbian
Hey everyone! I have a few questions regarding this feature request:
How do you imagine this working within Taskade?
Here are my thoughts:
- I see it as a "Document View" and in this view, the default item is a paragraph instead of a checkbox.
- Images and attachments are also displayed as full-width but can be resized—similar to Notion.
- Paragraphs can be indented in the beginning
- Project-like items would be hidden (Project Due Date, Project Progress Bar)
Did I miss anything? Are there any other requirements?
promod
Narek Zograbian: What you're describing looks good. We'd get something simple and flexible like Google Docs.
Narek Zograbian
promod: Ok perfect! Let me know if there are any other features that you'd like to see in a feature like this.
kofi.wilmot
Narek Zograbian: I think we need to be able to embed:
To do lists
Images: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .svg
Documents: PDFs, Taskade documents, Google Docs
Audio/Video: MP3s, .mp4, external services like YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Twitch, and more through embed links.
Web Content: Embedding live web pages or specific services like Google Maps, Figma, InVision, Miro, Whimsical, Typeform, etc.
Code: Embed code snippets or GitHub Gists.
Social Media: Tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram posts.
Presentations: SlideShare presentations or files from Microsoft PowerPoint if shared via a link.
Databases: Airtable bases, and more.
Files from File Storage Services: Files or folders from services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive.
It would also be great if we had the ability to share Taskade documents (similar to Notion pages).
albertkinng
Narek Zograbian: you’re in the right track. For me the embedded projects is a most. All the other ideas are great too, but your vision with the ability to add projects is perfect tbh.

Narek Zograbian: Options I would like to see in Taskade software:
Separate module for documents.
Ability to create new documents and sub-documents within them.
Ability to add links to other documents within the text.
Ability to create a table with the documents and filter them by tags.
Ability to add emojis to document titles.
Ability to create a dashboard by dividing the document into columns.
Embedding various elements, such as images, directly into the document.
Ability to copy a webpage and paste its text with images into Taskade.
AI agent that learns from these documents and can answer related questions, providing links to relevant information.
jonathan.g
Narek Zograbian: You must be able to create a document from anywhere in any view.
For example in the title in a list view you need the possibility to create a document. Also in the subtasks.
You need the ability to create several columns and be able to link pages or documents anywhere in order to be able to create templates.
Narek Zograbian
kofi.wilmot: You would still be able to do this with add-ons. You could use a slash command to access existing functionality, it would simply have some changes as a Doc view.
Narek Zograbian
jonathan.g: The columns aspect may be harder to support because it would need to be mapped to other views as well. I'm curious as to how you see that working within Taskade?
In my proposed view, you would still have the same functionality that you have in List view. Every paragraph is a node with access to the same add-ons that we have in List view.
Narek Zograbian
albertkinng: What do you mean when you say embedded projects? Are you saying you'd want to embed a Taskade project within another project and have it be an interactive iframe? Similar to Google Docs?
Narek Zograbian
adrianskobiej: A lot of separate requests here but I will do my best to try and answer them!
- Separate module for documents
This one may complicate our UI/UX for users. I think we can achieve something similar by creating a project in Doc View instead.
- Ability to create new documents and sub-documents within them.
Could you expand on this one? Are you referring to something similar to Notion's Pages with Sub-pages structure?
- Ability to add links to other documents within the text.
We currently support @mentions for linking projects and Tasks have a copy link option, so this would be possible.
- Ability to create a table with the documents and filter them by tags.
This may be doable if we support custom addons or columns in Action View and then listing all of the projects within that individual project.
- Ability to add emojis to document titles.
You can do this already with the project title in Taskade.
- Ability to create a dashboard by dividing the document into columns.
How would you imagine this functionality? The main issue is mapping this to other views, such as Mind Map, Board, Action, etc.
- Embedding various elements, such as images, directly into the document.
We already support embedding. You can use /embed or access embed using the add-ons menu. Are you referring to interacting and changing an embedded element directly? (e.g. embed a google sheet and edit it from Taskade)
- Ability to copy a webpage and paste its text with images into Taskade.
We have the web clipper functionality on our chrome extension. Do give it a try!
- AI agent that learns from these documents and can answer related questions, providing links to relevant information.
This one is something we're working towards, but it's a pretty complex problem. How do you imagine this working in Taskade? What would the UI be? Where would you access this?
Note: You can already chat with projects using the AI Project Chat.

Narek Zograbian: Thank you for your detailed response. I will now provide the English translations of your answers:
Separate module for documents
I think it could be a good compromise.
Ability to create new documents and sub-documents within them.
Yes, exactly like in Notion, so that I can build a tree structure of documents (Pages with Sub-pages structure).
@mentions would be great.
Ability to create a table with the documents and filter them by tags.
Thanks to such a table, it's easy to find nested documents. I have attached a file from my Notion to show how it looks.
Ability to create a dashboard by dividing the document into columns.
I have thought about dividing the document into columns, similar to what I have done in Notion. I placed the main documents on the left column with titles (like a table of contents, making it easier for me to build subsequent structures), and on the right column, I have a table (for quickly searching content).
Embedding various elements, such as images, directly into the document.
Yes, exactly. I want to be able to embed a table from Google Sheets, for example, so that it is displayed within the document and I can interact with it directly. The same goes for embedding YouTube videos or applications like Miro. As for images, I would like them to be pasted as part of the document, so that I can see them immediately instead of clicking on a separate file. This is what I meant by copying content with images from a website into Notion, where the image appears in its entirety.
How do you imagine this working in Taskade? What would the UI be? Where would you access this?
I envision an AI assistant continuously expanding its knowledge about new documents, being able to answer questions about their content, and providing links to specific pages where it found that information. I think this functionality could be added to the main AI assistant, with an icon in the bottom right corner of the document. The chat would expand, allowing us to ask questions about the entire content.
Thank you for your great work. Taskade is one of my favorite project management tools, and I would love for it to also become my knowledge management tool.

Narek Zograbian: Echoing the sentiments shared here, it's clear we need the capability to craft a document within Taskade akin to a Google Doc. While I recognize your intention to incorporate features that align with Taskade's intuitive usability—which would normally entail integrating documents into existing view options—that approach doesn't quite meet our needs. What we're looking for is a separate function to generate standalone documents that can also be linked to our projects. For instance, if I need to draft a document outlining our team's goals complete with links to urgent projects, I should be able to select "create a document," and be presented with a word processing interface similar to MS Word. Once the document is complete, it should be storable in any workspace alongside our projects. To illustrate further, imagine being able to add to a specific task within a project simply by hitting a 'plus button' to generate a new document right there and then, which can then be saved directly within the task. I'm hoping this clarifies our requirement.
Narek Zograbian
albertkinng: I hear you! We're still trying to find that balance between simplicity and being feature-packed. I do believe that we can probably look into supporting a Doc View and then iterate on top of that with more Document-specific functionality in that view.
Thank you for all this feedback!

Narek Zograbian: Personally, I would really love to be able to arrange an entire project like one can do in Notion and have the option to be able to make pages formatted as freely as it can on notion:
- Like have blocks become columns and arrange them into anywhere in the screen
- Be able to do shift + enter to separate paragraphs instead of making them different blocks
- Had different options like in-line images, files, etc.
- Option to indent blocks into each other
- Being able to add kinds of blocks, I really liked the callout, quote, and synced blocks over on Notion. Those were fun to use to add some design into a page.
- I also liked how the toggle and non-toggle paragraph/list was an optional thing over in Notion
- Being able to add custom icons would be nice too (though I supposed this isn't exactly a part of the document editing process but it's a very nice to have)
One thing that notion doesn't have that would be nice to be able to change alignment of texts whether it is left, center, right, etc.
This was mentioned in different feedback but sorta relevant, but it would really be great to have a database system similar to notion. It would be nice to be able to make tables and properties in these documents then link it together that way. Maybe documents can be completely different from Projects? That might make it easier to integrate since it is vastly different than how Taskade currently works.
I mostly use Taskade as a productivity app but would really love to be able to integrate my writing stuff into it. I also use it for journaling + daily to-do but recently been wishing there was more ways to organize the content and look of said journal.

ersatzlord: Thank you for the detailed overview of the features you'd like to see in Taskade! We'll take note of this while we improve our editor.
Narek Zograbian
adrianskobiej: Thank you for the point-by-point breakdown! I appreciate it. We'll review all of this and see how we can improve Taskade even more and possibly incorporate some of the use cases you mentioned.

Narek Zograbian: We needed this yesterday Fam - LBVS! 😏
Jokes aside, can we get a stable, simple version of a v.9 TDoc (TaskadeDoc) please? I loved the other ideas, but strong foundation, strong house.
🙏❤️💯
Narek Zograbian
supermario_ai: What would you like to see in that v.9 of Taskade? I had mentioned a few of the ideas before. Do you think anything was missing from those? Definitely open to feedback!
supermario_ai
Narek Zograbian: just basic doc functionality right now and agents to be able to interact with it. Basic word processing functions and whatever you can do today in a task. Lastly, Tables, tables, and more tables.
IMHO, tables should come before this or at the same time. If we're talking
'Notion-like', Tables can't be left on the table.
🤣
Narek Zograbian
supermario_ai: We'll be supporting Custom Fields in Action View (which may be renamed to Table View).
As far as basic word processing functions, could you be a little more specific? It would help! What functions do you think are missing from Taskade currently?

joewill: Hey there! Are you referring to something like this?

Truth is I use Craft for notes and notes online sharing, and use Sidenotes for fast note access. If you implement a way to have Notes within Taskade it will be super helpful.
ersatzlord
I really need this feature to move my creative writing stuff to Taskade.
Paragraph format doesn’t even indent in the web or desktop apps! Even if you press the button that should indent it. Apparently this is expected behavior.
This alone really limits Taskade to just a fancy to-do app
Narek Zograbian
ersatzlord: I mentioned a couple of proposed ideas—and would like your input. Here they are:
- the default item is a paragraph instead of a checkbox.
- Images and attachments are also displayed as full-width but can be resized—similar to Notion.
- Paragraphs can be indented in the beginning
- Project-like items would be hidden (Project Due Date, Project Progress Bar)
Would that address your use case?
