🟨 Kanban Cards View

This isn't a real Kanban view now.
It is more a list of tasks presented in columns.
I would also like to see the traditional Kanban.
So that there are also Kanban cards.

Any news about this?
Waiting it eagerly

Hi everyone,
We're excited to hear your thoughts as we consider introducing a new
Card View
in Taskade, following our recent launches of the Gantt Chart and Table View.- How would you feel about adding Card View as a new option, without replacing the existing Board View?
- Would you be comfortable if Card View were available as a premium feature?
- We'd love to hear any additional requests or use cases you have for this view.
Just a reminder: our current Board View supports drag-and-drop functionality—you can simply drag the first heading in each column to move it left or right.
Thanks so much for your feedback!
Cheers,
Team Taskade

John at Taskade I'm not so sure about it being a premium feature. This seems like table stakes for any serious contender.

John at Taskade Forget about offering cards as a premium feature. Cards should be there since day one.

I don't think there's a need to complicate licensing.
🤔
Currently, there are 3 license versions available to choose from, they are transparent and there is no need to complicate it.
If you really want it, you can increase the license price at most.
🤔
Kanban is also nothing new and most project planning tools, task management and even CRM systems have it.

John at Taskade i could not agree with everyone more as good as you have made the application but a simple actual kanban is missing and look at upbase.io i actually moved back there because the whole use without the kanban with simple tags , priorities due dates and sub tasks was done nicely there thats the biggest drawback here and overly complex
jack-s
That's true.
Most PM systems have kanban in its traditional basic form.
And Taskade doesn't have it 🙁

Narek Zograbian The new Custom field addon solution would be the gateopener for this feature request.
If the Taskade team implemented a Status addon for projects/tasks it would open the gates for a true kanban board status view (simply listing each item in the columns related to the added status) aside from the current "block" board view.
Taskade is really missing this feature - most project mangement tools have this; even Canny (your feature request provider) 🙂 Same goes for the hierarchy views; important that we are are able to have an overview when "zooming" out - having all the views on each Folder (Subspace) level, and also the top layer (Workspace) level; which could be under Home (maybe renamed to All folders)?
I want to make the switch to Taskade, however not offering such an important feature and overviews forces me to stick with Clickup 😑
Narek Zograbian
pauk How do you imagine that workflow in Taskade? Would you simply want to choose which custom fields are displayed and which aren't displayed?
Would you also want us to make the tasks look more like a card instead of a list in columns?
pauk
Narek Zograbian thanks for reaching out!
For my personal need, I would like the tasks to be grouped in columns by status, i.e., To do - In progress - Completed - Delivered. So pretty much only using a single custom field for "grouping" and I think displaying tasks as a card would make sense here; with your tags visible next to the task name. If you want to explore more information about each task/card, you should open it.
For Taskade users wishing to use the Kanban board view for other things that statuses - it would be aweseome if you could make the Kanban dynamic and let the user choose their preferred custom field for grouping :)
pauk
and offer drag-and-drop for tasks/cards in this Kanban board view
Narek Zograbian
pauk Drag and Drop is already available when you hover over a task and select the six dots on the left side of the task.
Are you referring to another feature?
Narek Zograbian
pauk We're actually working on Custom Fields rn. It's a pretty complicated feature as it requires us to change our architecture.
That said, I think once we have custom fields in Action View, we can port those into the other views as well.
pauk
Narek Zograbian Yes, just making sure to mention that this should be enabled for a possible kanban board view with cards as well 🙂
Exactly, we like to see it 💪 as I stated in my original post: The new Custom field addon solution would be the gateopener for this feature request 🙏
Narek Zograbian
pauk That makes sense! Thank you for your continued support and feedback! Appreciate it.

Narek Zograbian use use the basic kanban of upbase.io i also moved back to it because the lack of this simple feature and the lack to organize media files into folders . its super complicated for the team to use the way you have structured it currently . you have put in great effort building the product but the basic barebone is more complex than it needs to be
jack-s
Yes.
Kanban seems like a "must have" function.
🤔
Narek Zograbian
aarisht Could you provide specific references that you think we should change?
When you provide us with visuals, it's easier for us to see what you see. A screenrecording helps too!

This is the one feature Taskade is missing for my use case! It's still one of my favorite tools, but this is huge. The other thing that would be great with this is notifications when a card is moved to another parent, especially when working with teams and it requires some back and forth on tasks. BIG UPVOTE
yolk
I personally see the boards view usable as a kanban, and have been doing so.
I am voting for this because I think it could be improved, with (hopefully?) minor asks 🙇
- I'd like to be able to move a node from one parent to another (move card from one column to another), through a menu or /command/ keyboard shortcut. It's slightly annoying to have to drag around one node/card into another stack, but is feasible but have found myself hitting the undo or^Zwhen I inevitably mess up 😝
- I'd like to see last-edited (viewable when you click the grabber on a node) to reflect when a card is moved
- I would also like to see last-edited reflect whenever any of its leaves/children are edited (if I needed to pick one update to reflect between this and the previous, it would be when it was moved)
I think trello has the best kanban experience for sure, which to be fair has been iterated on for years 🙂
Narek Zograbian
yolk: I think we can probably look into making the tasks look more like cards. However, would you want a panel like Trello? Where it pops out with addons and such?
yolk
Narek Zograbian: Yes! I would like that. I imagine it like a "zoom-in" view that's specific for this "Kanban (Boards-NG)" view. A modal or panel like Trello would appear when in this view for when "zooming in" on a Card, which is the first level descendants of a column node within the project.
When I mention 'zoom-in' I think about my current understanding of how Taskade works and a feature I liked when using workflowy was being able to work on any node in the structure as it was the parent.
I guess that's my way of saying, I am able to use columns as they are today and treat the first level descendants as my card, I have cards (first descendant of node column) that aren't completed folded out, I will fold things if I want to see more info throughout the page. To keep relating it to a trello card attachments on that parent work as it would on trello as a card's attachments, the note attachment would be the description, comments could even be like trello cards, as a log underneath everything. The children or descendants on this card don't have a mapping to how trello works if I'm not mistaken, since cards attached to a trello card are more like mirroring a card (node) from what I understand. I would be fine if I'm able to edit them on the column, and being able to move them to the first descendants of the project node (columns) using a special menu for the view (the only issue i have is moving between columns older cards that are further down the column.
The modal idea you mention would make it easier to use today, especially if this would then entail limiting display of any descendants on the column if the card (node) is not "open".
if it were possible to make that a lens of "zoom-in" in this "Kanban (Boardsv2)" that I more deeply want as a feature for everywhere else, I would prefer to go that route and be slightly annoyed while I'm using it like a Kanban view today 😅. I don't want to be prescriptive, but I enjoy when it feels like a small underlying change in Taskade suddenly unlocks a lot of functionality everywhere.
x-ref: 'zoom-in feature like workflowy' I've voted on which in comparison is 10% of the votes of this feature hehe: https://www.taskade.com/feedback/feature-requests/p/ability-to-zoom-in-on-a-particular-node-like-how-workflowy-and-dynalist-do-for-e

yolk: This was insightful! Thank you for the detailed feedback. I imagine the "modal" would be similar to the one in "My Tasks" for when you click on a task. Is that something more in line with what you're saying?
jack-s
👍
yolk
Narek Zograbian: Yea! I like the way an "opened" task appears on My Tasks. I also looked at an example of a node underneath a node, and they appear as separate items on My Tasks - which is great for the My Tasks view, you can always jump to the project context by opening the task with the "Open in Project" button to see it in context.
I could see a Note attachment filling in under the "title" of the card to act as a "description" in this view, maybe in the future if that was allowed to be included, it would then render markdown if it's there, in this view (like trello).
You didn't explicitly say it would be on the right side, but I was considering if that would work. I'd describe it as a slide out on the right, it wouldn't allow access to the chat or ai chat. I
think
I would rather not be able to access the board, than the chat, when I have a card opened. I also don't think it would "feel" like a card if it's not a modal, and it appears as a slide outI think a modal view where it's focused in the center of the project space and is similarly formatted like the view from opening a task on My Tasks, would work. It would allow the user to continue to use the right chat or ai chat.
I don't have a proper example of how children from a card would act here in the modal. I think under the "Note" attachment, acting as the description. Where one could still act upon this node's children as if it were on the project page, or another view. . I imagine them above the comments that might be a part of that card, a timeline of comments and attachments are part of the comments timeline. All attachments are hoisted to the top of the card, above its children. Children that have attachments would still act similarly to how they act on another view (as attached with thumbnails under that node).
It might feel good to be able to Shift+Tab while working on an opened card, which would make it throw back that child a new card and it's decendants viewable within the card in this "Board next-gen / Kanban" view.
To mimic an "attached card", trello's only capability of showing related cards and projects directly on the parent[^1]. I would expect an embed to another taskade node to appear as a card, perhaps only if it's in that project (for ensuring permissions, when rendering that card as a "card" attachment), however I would like the option if that were a feature to make all attached node's appear as cards and there's maybe a trick to ensuring this happens correctly on the backend for the current viewer. (Perhaps just hiding it to the user if they don't have permissions to view it). I like how trello renders a board link as well! It reminds me how Basecamp renders documents too[^2].
Narek Zograbian
yolk: Thank you for this breakdown! I think what you mentioned would align with our structure and architecture. I think the other part is to make sure that this is an option for users to enable. Some people may not prefer the "card" view and may prefer the node breakdown instead—as it is a bit faster.
The screenshots and links also help out with being able to reference how other tools handle this. Thank you again!
yolk
Narek Zograbian: Glad to help! I'm looking forward to seeing the results, if it's decided to move forward one way or another.

Mobile kanban view would be fantastic

Hello, we would like the ability to view product roadmaps using various data and custom columns such as status (which is not available as a column yet), timelines, priority, effort etc. We are currently assessing the product fit between Taskade and Monday. We love the simplicity of Taskade, but it lacks some useful product planning and execution features that Monday provides. We would love to continue using Taskade so let us know when this feature would be prioritized and rolled out.
